The founder of Bvlgari was a jeweller from Greece by the name of Sotirios Voulgaris. However, translated into Italian this name becomes Sotirio Bulgari.
Bulgari started his first jewellery store in his hometown. Deciding to find his fortune further afield, he left his town in 1877 for Corfu, before landing in Naples, Italy.
Seven years later he arrived in Rome where he remained. Another store was eventually opened here after years of hard work selling his jewellery in the street and in other peoples shops. This was the first sign of the brand we know today. In 1905 the business was further expanded and Sotirio’s two sons, Giorgio and Constantino, helped to opened a new shop; again in Rome. The rich of the area would travel to Bulgari’s shops to buy the finest jewellery which was created with both Roman and Greek influences in the designs.
Jumping forward seventy years, the company was expanding faster than ever, opening shops throughout the world during the 1970s; locations in places such as New York, Paris, Monte Carlo and Geneva. Now the company boasts over 290 boutiques today. Sotirio’s grandsons were named chairman and vice-chairman, respectively: Nicola and Paolo. Their nephew, Francesco Trapani, was appointed as the company CEO. It was Trapani who decided to diversify the company in the 1990s. His first foray outside of jewellery was the Bulgari perfume range. With Trapani as CEO, Bvlgari became a brand known not just for its gems and jewels, but for everything a luxury brand is associated with, from watches to bags.
In March 2011 the controlling share of Bvlgari was bought from the family by the group behind Louis Vuitton, LVMH. Despite owning many luxury companies, LVMH have said they are going to continue keeping Bvlgari the powerhouse that it is on the luxury goods circuit. One of the best sellers is the Bvlgari 2104B | BV 2104B. These glasses are extremely unique, combining the subtlety of rimless frames with highly patterned temple detailing. There is small jewelled detailing at the temples, making these glasses a real statement item. Brown copper is the most popular colour, and probably the most understated hue.
Several different lenses can be fitted into the Bvlgari 2104B | BV 2104B frames, with all these lenses able to be coated. The lenses can be ordered in four different thicknesses, with the thinner being the strongest. High prescriptions are recommended the thinner lens, as this will look less bulky then your standard lens. Although available without, anti-glare and anti-scratch coatings are recommended for everyone who wears any prescription of glasses. Further options include water and dust repellence as well as smudge proofing.
