Oakley started out as one man with $300 working from his garage. It has now turned into a multi-billion dollar corporation.

Started in 1975 by Jim Jannard, Oakley was named after his pet dog, an English Setter. Jannard first worked with motorcycles and rally bikes; patenting a material he humorously called ‘unobtanium’ to make grips like any others at the time for motorcycle handles. From these humble beginnings, the company was born and began to receive increased recognition within the sporting world.
The decision was made to start selling eyewear around 10 years ago, and the Oakley brand of designer spectacles was born. Due to the the takeover by Luxottica and it’s association and ownership of companies such as Vogue, the brand was now recognised by the high-end market and not just the sporting one.
