Oliver Peoples Sunglasses

Brand History
In 1986, opticians and brothers Larry and Dennis Leight opened an optical boutique in Hollywood, California. After setting up their optical business, the brothers purchased a pristine condition of vintage American-made eyewear from an auction. The retro styles ranged from rimless to metal frames and different fashion trends from the 40s and 60s. Some of the glasses were even produced by popular American companies such as Bausch and Lomb.

The receipt from the auction printed the name Oliver Peoples which to this day remains a mystery as to whom that may be. The brothers guessed the name either belonged to the original owner of the glasses or the distributor. Regardless, the mystery name was used in his honour when selling the pristine conditioned goods. The glasses were so popular, due to retro fashion taking the world by storm, that the Leight brothers wanted to create their own unique designs and sell within a gallery-like retail setting.

The Eyewear
In 1987, the brothers released their own glasses named the Oliver Peoples collection, inspired by the vintage frames and the mystery name was kept for the now famous brand name. The brand’s mission is to be known globally for being the “most prestigious and culturally distinctive eyewear brand.” Every frame is given careful consideration to be unique and authentic. The brand has been worn by many celebrities in the fashion and entertainment world and has appeared in many fashion magazines.

The first appearance of the glasses was for a German Vogue cover shoot featuring Andy Warhol wearing the quirky frames and since then many celebrities including Hollywood movie actors are seen wearing the frames for both function and fashion. The sunglasses are comfortable but also radiate personal style. They provide maximum sunlight protection and only the finest materials are used from Italy. The sunglasses live by diversity and being dynamic. The brand is very trendy and well known in the fashion eyeworld for their retro-inspired and unique frames.

They have a vast majority of styles, different fames, lenses, shapes, textures and colours to cater for every individual style. They are famously known for not bearing a logo on their products which might take away from the value of making each style unique to you and gives a higher-end quality as they are not branded. The slight edge and quirk instantly makes them recognisable as an Oliver Peoples product so a logo is unnecessary. Oliver Peoples aims to give you a new visual experience with their excellent craftsmanship and exceeds all expectations.
