Varifocal Lenses - FAQs and all you need to know!

    Varifocal lenses

Varifocal lenses can also be referred to as a progressive lens, a term more commonly used in America. This is due to their progressive lens tones because unlike bifocals, varifocal lenses have no specific area of lens strength. They gradually combine your reading, mid-distance and distance prescriptions. As lens technology has advanced the old fashioned line which used to show the division between prescriptions has become close to invisible. For distance, you look through the top section of your lenses, mid-distance in the middle and to read the lower half. With varifocal lenses, you don’t have to carry around three pairs of glasses anymore. So just buy a pair of varifocal glasses and varifocal sunglasses and you are covered for everything.

  7. The History of Glasses
    The History of Glasses

Glasses are now an everyday norm, not only for practical, obvious reasons, to improve our vision but also worn as fashion accessories or to protect our eyes from the sun. However, glasses are a luxury we take for granted.

The first-ever inventor to wear and use glasses is unknown. However, the Romans are first recognised as discovering the ability to use glass to enhance their ability to see and read by creating a small magnifying glass.

The first wearable pair of glasses, however, dates back to the 13th Century in Murano Italy. This small island is to the north of Venice and home to Murano glassworks. Glasses were made by using primitive glass-blown lenses set into leather or wooden frames. When first worn, these spectacles were held in front

Protect your eyes on Bonfire Night!

Bonfire night (November 5th) is right around the corner; it is an exciting, fun-packed night filled with fun-fairs, social gatherings and an explosion of mind-blowing colours that light-up our skies. But, unfortunately, it is also a night that has become notorious for serious eye injuries and accidents involving explosives.

It has recently been reported that approximately 300 eye injuries are caused each year by fireworks, with those who handle fireworks at home as well as close-proximity bystanders said to be the ones most at risk. According to research, every single year at least 10 people in the UK lose their sight due to incidents involving fireworks, and over half of all fireworks injuries are suffered by children.
