The Gucci History

"Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten" - Aldo Gucci

Steeped in glamour, famed for fashionable yet timeless products, loved by movie stars and bequeathed to future generations - few fashion houses can boast as much mystique as Gucci. Founded in Florence in 1921, by Guccio Gucci, his vision for the brand was inspired by London. He wanted to create leather goods that had a sophisticated appeal but with Italian craftsmanship and flair which can only be achieved by his local Tuscan artisans. In the 1950’s, the green-red-green web icon became an internationally recognised hallmark of the brand.

Up until the turn of the millennium, Gucci heavily relied on its equestrian inspiration which brought them global success. Under the creative direction of Tom Ford the Gucci brand has been reinvented in a new light, fusing together history and modernity. Gucci has long been inspired by distinguished women of beauty – actresses, princesses and socialites. Today, the fashion brand is guided creatively by a similar sort of heroine: Frida Giannini, a Roman whose taste, imagination and panache have driven this storied label to even greater heights.
