All Starck eyewear is made from organic resources. The cellulose-acetate frames are derived from wood. The screwless hinges on the frames are supposed to resemble the joints of the human body, the shoulder joint to be exact. Inspired by the human body, all designs are created to be ergonomic and provide wearers with the most comfortable fit and feel.

Philippe Starck, the Designer

Philippe Starck is the founder of Starck Eyes. Being the son of an inventor and aeronautical engineer, Philippe decided to put his creativity and imagination into becoming a designer. From restaurants to hotels, his designs always incorporate three fundamental elements; ecology, function, and ergonomics. Starck was keen on ecology and sustainability long before it became a necessity or fashion trend. He opened an organic food company to motivate consumers to buy organic products, and more recently he developed the “democratic ecology” concept.

Starck Eyes Optical

Philippe Starck teamed up with the Alain Mikli Group in 1996 to launch Starck Eyes,, his eyewear collection. The frames by Starck are innovative, revolutionary and totally unconventional. Starck frames can bend and flex easier than a lot of standard designer frames. The screw-less hinges on the frame arms have been designed a certain way so that the glasses can mimic the movement of the joints in the human body.

The temple stems can be bent outwards, twisted, and even folded. The beauty of the Starck spectacles is due to the seamless design of the frames. The metal and acetate materials used to craft the eyewear have a smooth surface finish which complements the overall look of the glasses. If you are someone who loves ethical goods that also look good as well as function well, then you will fall in love with this brand and their eyewear.

Organic Acetate

All of the Starck glasses are produced from cellulose-acetate. Cellulose-acetate is a premium type of plastic that is derived from processed wood pulp. This special source is used mainly in eyewear production as it has great properties that eyewear requires such as strength, deep gloss finish, and high transparency. Cellulose-acetate has “natural” feel making it the perfect material for eyewear.
